Karachi has always had a special relationship with biryani. It is the dish people debate, recommend to friends and return to for celebrations.

At Funzo, we wanted to give Karachi another biryani to talk about: Zanzibar Biryani — one of the signature dishes on our African cuisine menu. Karachi now has a very different biryani coming to K-Town.

Where It All Began

Funzo began with a simple idea: introduce people in Karachi to flavours and dishes they may not have had the chance to try before.

Our menu brings together a variety of options, but Zanzibar Biryani holds a special place. It takes something familiar to a Karachi food lover — the excitement of a fragrant rice dish — and opens the door to a different culinary tradition.

A Dish with a Story to Tell

Zanzibar’s food culture reflects a meeting of coastal and international influences. That sense of connection is what drew us to Zanzibar Biryani.

Its name may immediately catch a Karachi diner’s attention, but the experience is about more than trying a new version of a favourite dish. It is an invitation to discover how food travels, changes and brings people together.

From Zanzibar to Karachi, the Zanzibar Biryani has it all in terms of flavours.

For many people here, biryani means a much-loved local recipe and a strong opinion about where to find the best plate. Funzo’s Zanzibar Biryani adds a new name to that conversation.

Why We Chose It for Funzo

Funzo offers a wide variety of dishes, including:

  • Kuku Paka
  • Makai Paka
  • Ugali
  • Mandazi

Each gives customers a different way to explore the menu. But Zanzibar Biryani stands out because it offers an especially welcoming starting point: people recognise the word biryani, even if the Zanzibar connection is something new to them.

It also suits the way Karachi loves to eat. Biryani is shared at family gatherings, discussed among friends and chosen for occasions when the food needs to be memorable.

As Funzo expands its catering menu, Zanzibar Biryani is a dish we are excited to bring to those tables.

From a Familiar Favourite to a New Experience

Karachi’s food scene is full of people willing to try something new — especially when there is a story behind it.

With Zanzibar Biryani, Funzo hopes to offer exactly that: a dish that feels approachable while introducing customers to another part of the world through food.

We know Karachi already has countless biryani favourites. We are bringing one more to the table — with a different inspiration and a place at the heart of Funzo’s menu.

Coming Soon

Funzo’s Zanzibar Biryani is coming to Karachi. People can’t wait for it.

And after Karachi, Funzo will be opening in Islamabad.

The biryani conversation in Pakistan just got a lot more interesting.
